YORK, PA – The York College volleyball squad earned a 3-0 Capital Athletic Conference victory over Penn State Harrisburg on the Spartans' Senior Day on Saturday afternoon in York. The win helped qualify the Spartans for the CAC tournament for the first time in four seasons.  They will be the 6^th seed in the upcoming tournament.

Match #30:

York def. Penn State Harrisburg, 25-13, 25-23, 25-23 (3-0)

Records: York 21-9 (4-5 CAC), Penn St. 7-18 (1-8 CAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• The first set was all Spartans as they had five runs of three or more points throughout the set.  The momentum they created throughout the beginning of the set continued to help them as they broke away with a six point run near the end of the set. The finishing touch of the set came with a powerful kill by sophomore Eryn Brady. 

• The second set had a different feel to it then the first set. The Spartans found themselves in many different holes throughout the set being stuck with scores, 7-1 and 11-3.  The Spartans found ways to overcome those differences with a huge seven point run near the end of the game.  The momentum of that clutch run boosted the Spartans to a 25-23 set two victory.

•The third set had a sense of the second set in the beginning as the Spartans gave up a four point run to start the match but fought hard to later tie the match at six. From here, the match was a back-and-forth volleyball match as each team scored every other serve until the score hit 14-12.  When the back- and-forth action ended, the Spartans never looked back as they held the lead until they scored 25 and ended the match with a score of 25-23.

Saturday's Notes:

The Spartans have now beaten PSU Harrisburg in five straight since the Lions have become a part of the CAC … the Spartans earned a trip to the CAC post season tournament for the first time since the 2012 season when York dropped a first round decision at St. Mary's … The Spartans banged out 14 service aces, good for their third highest total of the year … York's top service ace match was 18 against Rosemont … prior to the match, the Spartans honored their three seniors, Sarah Wukitch, Heather Kline, and Emily Maxwell as they were playing their final home match of their careers.

What's Next:

The Spartans will head to Newport News, Virginia on Tuesday to open up the CAC tournament against the third seeded Christopher Newport Captains. The first round match will see the third seeded Captains host the sixth seeded Spartans. The winner of the match will head to Salisbury to take on the second seeded Sea Gulls in the tournament semifinals.
