Big Offensive Day Highlights Spartan Senior Day

YORK, Pa-  The York College field hockey team finished out their 2016 regular season with a 7-0 win over Frostburg State on Senior Day on Wednesday afternoon in York. The Spartans had a total of four different scores in the win. Ali Posey led the team with a hat trick in the victory.

How it Happened:

•  The first goal of the first half came from Ali Posey on a corner from Alexa Taylor at 8:09 which was a rocket from the top of the circle to give York the early lead.

•  York built on the goal when Paige Taylor flicked the ball behind the goalie with 13:56 left in the first half to bring the Spartan lead to 2-0.

• Posey struck again with another goal off of a corner, which was also a rocket from the top of the circle as the Green and White lead 3-0 in the 25th minute.

• Taylor struck for a second goal as the ball was at a standstill in the circle and she shot the ball between the goalie's feet just over two minutes after Posey's second goal.

Lindsay Nye got a breakaway to goal and sent a cross to Anne Measley, who beat the goalie glove side for the Spartan goal, pushing the lead to 5-0.

• The Spartans closed out the first half scoring as Amanda Boclair fed a cross to the middle of the circle where Naomi George finished the chance for her first goal of the year.

• The Green and White closed out the scoring in the 41st minute as Posey and Alexa Taylor hooked up for a third time as Posey finished off a Taylor corner pass for the seventh goal of the game.

Game Notes:

The Spartans are now 12-5 all-time against the Bobcats as York has won three straight in the series … the hat trick for Ali Posey was the fourth time in her career, she also had hat tricks in the 5-2 win over Lynchburg this season on October 8th, September 2, 2015 at Gettysburg and September 5, 2015 against Eastern Mennonite … Posey now has 43 goals, 13 assist for a total of 99 points in the 56 games …. prior to the game the Spartans honored seniors Sydney LaMarsh and Alexa Taylor ... the seven goals tie the highest output of the season, matching the output in the win over Johns Hopkins on September 28 ... the shutout was the sixth of the year for the Spartan defense. 

 

Up Next:

Despite their 4-2 Capital Athletic Conference record, the Spartans will be the fourth seed in the upcoming Capital Athletic Conference tournament. The Spartans will host St. Mary's College in the CAC tournament opening round game in York on Sunday, October 30. The game is slated for a 1:00 pm start. The winner will head to top-seed Salisbury for the semifinals on Wednesday, November 2.
