Box Score

YORK, PA – The York College volleyball squad saw their three game win streak come to a halt as the #20 Christopher Newport Captains handed the Spartans a 3-0 Capital Athletic Conference loss on Friday night in Capital Athletic Conference action in Newport News, VA.

Match #28:

#20 Christopher Newport def. York 25-12, 26-24, 27-25

.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The nationally ranked Captains jumped on the Spartans early in the first set. The Captains sprinted out to a 16-7 lead as it felt like the Spartans had left their game on the bus after the six-hour trip to Newport News. The Spartans trimmed their deficit to six but the Captains finished the set on a 7-1 run to close out the game one win.

• The second set was far more competitive as the Green and White stayed with the Captains the entire set. The set was tied eight times with the final time coming at 24-24. The Captains got a kill from Hannah Miller and combo block from Hope Webb and Riley Garrison to survive the Spartans attempt to tie the match at one.

• The third set was much like the second as the two squads went back and forth with neither gaining a significant advantage. The Spartans had pushed out to a 24-20 lead as it looked like the Green and White would force a fourth set. However, the Captains had different ideas as they closed out the set on a 7-1 run to earn the 27-25 third set win. The set really couldn't have been much closer as there were 15 ties during the third game.
