Box Score YORK, PA – The York College volleyball team outlasted the Southern Virginia Knights 3-2 in Capital Athletic Conference play on Friday night in York. The win snaps a three-game losing streak for the Spartans as they pick up their 18th win of the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Spartans got off to a quick start in the first set as they sprinted out to a 12-8 lead. The Green and White increased the lead to 16-9 as the Knights called timeout. The Spartans kept the lead between five and seven point before the Spartans settled for the five point set one win.
• The Knights came out and secured an early 8-4 lead in the second set. The Spartans tied the set at 10 and eventually pushed out to a 13-10 lead courtesy of a 5-0 Spartan spurt. York pushed the lead to 17-12 on a Gabby Emeigh service ace. The Green and White continued to build on the lead as they increased the lead to seven at 21-14. The Knights ripped off a 6-0 spurt to trim their deficit to 21-20. York closed out the win with four straight points for the 25-20 victory.
• The third set looked like the Spartans would cruise to a three set win as they led 13-6 in the set. The Spartans maintained the lead until the Knights tied the set at 22 all. That started off a fantastic flurry of points that turned what looked like it would be a 3-0 Spartan win into a nail bitter. The teams would find the set tied seven more times with the final tie coming at 29 on a Kelly Cavey kill. The Knights would extend the match with consecutive points as they earned a 31-29 set three victory.
• The fourth set was all Southern Virginia as the Knights jumped out to an early 7-4 lead. The Knights pushed the lead to six twice before York cut their lead to one at 19-18. The Knights scored six of the final seven points of the set to force the decisive fifth set.
• York didn't want to let the opportunity to win get away in the fifth. The Green and White sprinted out to a 7-1 lead. Southern Virginia trimmed the lead to 10-5 but York scored five the final eight points of the match to seal their second CAC win of the year.

The Spartans improve to 2-2 all-time against Southern Virginia as York has won two straight against the Knights … the Spartans collected 76 digs in the win, that total was third highest total of the year behind the 83 against Gettysburg and the 79 at Marymount … the 54 kills in the match ties a season high as that total has been reached three times this year … the Spartans had 14 service errors, their second highest totals of the year … the Spartans won their first game without injured starter Brooke Krebs as she has now been out of the lineup for the last three games … fellow starter Kerrie DeFelice has now missed eight straight games with her return to play still in question … the Spartans are now 3-5 with DeFelice out of the lineup … York improves to 6-3 at home with their two five set wins coming at Wolf Gymnasium.

The Spartans continue their three-game home stand on Saturday afternoon when they host Frostburg State in a Capital Athletic Conference contest. The match is slated for a 2:00 pm start at Wolf Gymnasium. The Spartans will conclude the home stand on Wednesday when they host Goucher in their final non-conference match of the year.
