ELIZABETHTOWN, PA – The York College volleyball squad concluded their three game road trip with a 3-1 loss at Elizabethtown College on Tuesday night. The Spartans dropped all three matches on the road trip.  

Match #24:

Elizabethtown def. York 26-24, 25-21, 22-25, 27-25 (3-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The first set was like many for the Spartans this year as it was another closely contested set. The Blue Jays pushed out to an early 12-8 advantage. The Spartans answered with an 8-0 run to take a 16-12 lead. The Blue Jays crawled back into the set, tying the game at 21. The set was tied again at 22, 23, and 24 before Elizabethtown scored the final two points of the set for the 26-24 win.

• Elizabethtown jumped out to a 7-3 lead in set two. York tied the set at 10 before the Blue Jays scored 12 of the next 18 points of the match to push out to a 22-16 lead. The Spartans cut the Blue Jays lead to 23-20. Again, the Blue Jays would close out the match, scoring two of the final three points of the set for the 25-21 win.

• York came roaring out of the gate, taking a 10-3 third set lead. The Blue Jays battled back, tying the set at 19. The Spartans scored six of the final nine points of the set to force a fourth game.

• Elizabethtown powered out to a 10-5 lead to start the fourth set. York worked to get back into the set, drawing to within one at 13-12. The Blue Jays pushed their lead back to 21-15. The Spartans continued to fight as they drew even at 23. The set would be tied at 24 and 25 as York tried to keep the match alive. The Blue Jays closed out the Spartans with a Mackenzie Garner kill and a Spartan attack error for the 27-25 win.

Tuesday's Notes:

The Spartans have now lost three in a row and five of their last six … six of York's seven setbacks have come in four sets (3-1) … York played their second straight match without starter Brooke Krebs … The Spartans have played the last six games without starter Kerrie DeFelice as she has been injured … the Green and White is 1-5 without DeFelice in the lineup and now 0-2 without Krebs … in the Spartans' seven losses they have been outscored 657-591 … in their 17 wins they have outscored their opponents 1354-988 … the Spartans own decided advantages in the first and second sets as they have won 17 of 24 first and second sets … they own a 19-5 advantage in third sets while they have lost the fourth set 6-1 … York has won their lone five set decision this year … the loss to the 6-14 Blue Jays is just the second loss to a team under .500 as McDaniel was 8-9 when they beat the Green and White.

What's Next:

The Spartans open a three-match home stand on Friday evening when they host Southern Virginia University in a Capital Athletic Conference match. The match is set for a 7:00 pm start. York will then host Frostburg State University in a CAC match on Saturday at 2:00 pm.
