Box Score YORK, Pa. – The York College field hockey team used a suffocated offensive performance to secure a 5-0 win over Eastern Mennonite University on Saturday afternoon at Kinsley Field.
The Spartans (1-1) piled on 33 total shots in today's contest, surpassing the 28 shots they put on the Royals (0-2) in last season's meeting. The last time the Spartans eclipsed the 30-shot mark was on October 18, 2012 when they put up 45 in a 5-0 win over Frostburg State.
Sophomore Ali Posey (Airville, Pa. / Red Lion) once again led the York offense in scoring as she recorded her second hat trick of the season in as many games.
Freshman Lindsay Nye (Duncannon, Pa. / Susquenita) starting the scoring for the Green and White in the seventh minute as she knocked in a loose ball across the end line after Autumn Mallory (Leonardtown, Md. / Leonardtown) poked the ball through the keeper's legs.
Posey took care of the next three goals for York as she knocked in her own rebound from close range for her first, blasted a shot from the top of the circle that found the upper left corner for her second and converted a penalty stroke in the second half for her third and final goal of the day.
Freshman Kate Swope (Shamong, N.J. / Seneca) lifted the Spartans to a fifth score on her first collegiate goal when she knocked in her own rebound after being denied on her initial attempts.
Both Spartan keepers saw action in today's contest. Eve Hauptle (Alexandria, Va. / West Potomac) earned the start and made one save as she saw just three total shots in the first half. Ty McCloskey (Egg Harbor Township, N.J. / Egg Harbor) played the entire second half and made two saves on two total shots from the Royals.
The Spartans have a quick turnaround as they are in action again tomorrow at home in a 1:00 p.m. contest against a nationally recognized Kenyon College squad.
