SELINSGROVE, PA – The York College volleyball squad split their two matches in the opening round of the 2015 Hampton Inn Crusader Classic hosted by Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove.

The Spartans dropped a 3-0 decision to the host Crusaders in their opening match on Friday. They bounced back to outlast Misericordia 3-2 in the nightcap.

In the match against the Crusaders, Susquehanna won the match by scores of 28-26, 25-13, and 25-23 as York suffered another tight three set loss.

Freshman Eryn Brady (King of Prussia, Pa./Lower Merion) led the Spartans with five kills while she also had seven digs and two block assists. Alison Dorsey (Elkridge, Md./Long Reach) had four kills in 13 attempts with no errors as she hit .308 in the match.

Junior setter Sarah Wukitch (East Greenville, Pa./Southern Lehigh) dished out 21 assists while she also had seven digs and two service aces. Katherine Graziano (Elkridge, Md./Archbishop Spalding) led the Spartan defense with 17 digs.

York hit .075 for the match while Susquehanna hit .182 in the win.

In the win over the Cougars, the Spartans won the match by scores of 22-25, 25-20, 25-18, 18-25, and 15-4. The win improves the Spartans to 2-2 in five set matches.

Sophomore Kelly Cavey (Hampstead, Md./Hereford) led the Green and White with 12 kills in 42 attempts as she hit .214 for the match. Cavey also had 15 digs, an assist, and two service aces. Freshman Brooke Krebs (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) added five kills, 13 digs and three block assists while Brady chipped in with six kills, four service aces, four digs, a solo block and a block assist.

Wukitch recorded 26 helpers in addition to 12 digs, three service aces and a solo block. Graziano paced a strong defensive effort as she had a team-high 25 digs in the victory.

The Spartans are now 5-8 overall. They return to tournament action on Saturday morning at 11:00 am when they face Penn State Behrend. They conclude their stay at the tournament with a 3:00 pm match against Baldwin-Wallace.
