Volleyball Suffers Hard-Fought Defeat to Elizabethtown

Box Score

YORK, Pa. – The York College volleyball team dropped a highly-contested nonconference home match to Elizabethtown College, 3-1, on Tuesday night at Charles Wolf Gymnasium.

The Spartans (4-7) took the first set in dramatic fashion as they came roaring back after trailing 10-1 early in the set. They used a 19-10 run to tie the set at 20-20 and then edged out the Blue Jays (8-2) down the stretch to claim the 28-26 set victory.

Heather Kline (Woodbridge, Va. / Woodbridge) and Eryn Brady (King of Prussia, Pa. / Upper Merion) recorded the final two kills for the Spartans to win the set. Kline finished the match with five kills, while Brady recorded eight.

Sophomore Kelly Cavey (Hampstead, Md. / Hereford) led all Spartan scorers on the night as she recorded a career-high 10 kills on 27 attack attempts and added five digs.

Elizabethtown dominated the second set, using a .417 hitting percentage and a late 9-2 to put the set to rest.

The Spartans battled in the final two sets, but came up just short as they fell 26-24 in both sets. York held a 23-22 lead in the third set and forced a 24-24 tie in the fourth. Both of the final two sets were very competitive as neither team led by more than six in either of the sets.

York returns to the court on Friday at the Hampton Inn Crusader Classic hosted by Susquehanna University. The Spartans face Susquehanna in their first of a four-game set on the weekend.
