Box Score 2 WILLIAMSPORT, PA - The York College volleyball squad capped a successful weekend in Williamsport as the Spartans split their two games during day two of the 22nd Annual Warrior Tip Off Classic hosted by Lycoming College.
The Spartans defeated Penn College 3-0 before falling to Allegheny 3-0 in their second match. The Green and White finished the weekend with three wins in four matches.
York is now 4-6 overall while Penn College falls to 1-9. Allegheny improves to 6-4 overall with their win over York.
The Spartans cruised to the win in the match against Penn as York won by scores of 25-9, 25-12, and 25-13.
York played 16 players with 11 players recording a kill in the victory. Senior Lindsay Jackson (Goshen, N.Y./Goshen Central) led York with eight kills as she hit .389 in the win. Setter Sarah Wukitch (East Greenville, Pa./Southern Lehigh) dished out 13 assists with four service aces and three digs in just two games. Senior Katherine Graziano (Elkridge, Md./Archbishop Spalding) led the defense with 23 digs while she also had a trio of service aces.
The Spartans hit .168 as a team while they had 10 service aces, their second highest total of the season.
Against Allegheny, the Spartans fell 27-25, 25-19, and 25-23 in a tightly contested sweep. York was led by a trio of Spartans with eight kills each as Brooke Krebs (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford), Heather Kline (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge), and Kelly Cavey (Hampstead, Md./Hereford) paced the Spartan offense. Krebs had eight kills and eight digs. Kline had eight kills with two block assists while Cavey had eight kills and four digs.
Wukitch dished out 30 assists and had 11 digs for York. Graziano again led the defense with 21 digs to lead the Spartan offense.
York committed 12 service errors in the loss while the Gators made just three service miscues.
Graziano was named to the All-Tournament team after the senior libero had a fantastic weekend. Graziano had 93 digs in 14 sets over the course of the four matches. She had four service aces as she served at over 92% for the weekend. She also had just one serve receive error in 68 attempts for the weekend.
The Spartans return to Wolf Gymnasium on Tuesday evening as they host Elizabethtown College in a non-conference contest. The match is slated for a 7:00 pm start.
