Stetson Claims CAC 5K Title, York Men Finish Fourth at CAC Outdoor Championship

YORK, Pa. – The York College men's track and field team captured fourth place and produced another individual champion as the 2015 Capital Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship came to a close on day number two at York College.

The Spartans placed fourth out of seven teams with a score of 80 team points as Salisbury University placed first with a team score of 199.5 points. Christopher Newport University took second with a score of 132.5 and Wesley College claimed third with 100 points.

Senior Michael Stetson (Old Bridge, N.J. / Old Bridge) captured York's lone individual championship on day two as he won the 5000m run with a time of 15:38.68 as he entered the meet ranked No. 2 in the event. Stetson's win on Sunday is his second 5K CAC Championship of the season as he captured the indoor crown in February.

Junior sprinter Darnell Tillman (Enola, Pa. / East Pennsboro) took down yet another school record on the season as he broke his own record with a time of 49.67 to take fifth place in the 400m dash. Tillman also competed in the 200m dash and placed fourth with a time 22.09. Tillman has set three individual records and helped set a relay record throught the indoor and outdoor seasons this year.

The Spartan pole vaulters all helped score valuable points for the team. Drew Chowhan (Flanders, N.J. / Roxbury) led the group with a third place finish and a new outdoor personal-best clearance of 14'0". Kevin Landis (Lincoln University, Pa. / Avon Grove) also set an outdoor personal record as he cleared a height of 13'-8.25" to capture fourth place. Darris Rodrigues (Palmerton, Pa. / Palmerton) produced an overall personal record as he also cleared a height of 13'-8.5" for fifth place. Andrew Jeffers also set a new personal record as he placed sixth at a clearance of 13'-2.25".

Senior Wil Murray (Cape May Court House, N.J. / Middle Township) closed out his Spartan career with a fourth place finish in the 3000m steeplechase at a time of 10:07.24 and a 15th place finish in the 5000m run at a time of 17:13.86. Senior Craig Eppler (Bethlehem, Pa. / Northampton) also closed out his career on Sunday as he competed in the 5000m and placed 14th with a time of 16:45.42. Eppler captured second in the 10K on Saturday to earn All-CAC status.

Two other Spartans captured top-10 finishes in the 5000m run. Ryan Aug (Monmouth Junction, N.J. / South Brunswick) earned team points for York as he placed fourth with a time of 16:04.15, Andy MacGibbon (Goffstown, N.H. / Goffstown) took home seventh place with a time of 16:23.17 and Christopher Sander (Frederick, Md. / Tuscarora) claimed 10th place with a time of 16:31.00

Freshman Grant Dell (Westminster, Md. / North Carroll) had a strong performance in the 1500m run as he finished third with a personal-record time of 3:57.36, which is just .05 seconds off the school record pace. Dell also scored team points in the 800m run with a sixth place finish a time of 1:57.38.

Andrew Tyris (Voorhees, N.J. / Brandywine) also contributed to the overall team score with a sixth place finish in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:25.70. Ian O'Brien (Orefield, Pa. / Parkland) also scored points with a sixth place finish in the hammer throw with a distance of 147'-10".

The foursome of Ryan Banta (Ellicott City, Md. / Marriotts Ridge), Tillman, Daniel Caldwell (Chester, Md. / Kent Island) and Darien Gray (Bladensburg, Md. / Gonzaga) produced York's best 4x400m relay time of the season with a mark of 3:23.19 to capture third place.
