FROSTBURG, MD – The York College men's tennis team picked up their tenth win of the year as they downed Frostburg State 8-1 in Capital Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon in Frostburg, Maryland.
The Spartans improve to 10-5 overall and 3-3 in the conference. The Bobcats fall to 1-10 for the year including 0-6 in the league.
York captured all three doubles matches but each of the flights were close. Daniel Erk (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) and Mario Herrera (San Francisco, Calif./Josua Christian) edged Kenneth Alban and Colin Christian 9-7 in the first singles match. Jake Greenstein (Morris Plains, N.J./Parsippany Hills) and Matt Rosenkrantz (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) teamed up to post an 8-6 second doubles win. Zach Hanson (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) and Rory Handlin (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) then bounced Marcus Bowers and Rodrigo Valenzuela 8-5 in the third doubles match.
In singles play, the Bobcats got a first singles victory but the Green and White captured the remaining five singles points.
Rosenkrantz earned a 4-6, 6-1, 6-0 second singles win. Erk downed Teron Tyre 6-3, 6-3 for the Spartans' third singles win. Hanson cruised past Arun Pant 6-0, 6-4 in the fourth singles match.
Herrera outlasted Joe Guididas 4-6, 7-6, 7-5 in the fifth singles contest. Scott Showmaker (Harrisburg, Pa./Hamburg Area) defeated Valenzuela 3-6, 7-6, 7-1 in the sixth singles match.
The Spartans close out their 2015 regular season with a trip to PSU Harrisburg on Tuesday afternoon. The match is slated for a 3:30 pm start.
