Spartan Men Conclude Outstanding Regular Season at Rowan

GLASSBORO, N.J. – The York College men's swim squad saw their outstanding 2014-15 regular season come to an end on a 113-72 loss at Rowan University on Saturday afternoon in Glassboro, N.J.

The Spartans end the season one win short of breaking the school record for wins in a season as they finish with a mark of 11-3. The nationally-ranked Profs are now 10-1 in their dual meet season.

The Spartans began the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay squad as the foursome of Morgan Schreiber (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove), Kyle Walthall (Port Hueneme, Calif./Rio Mesa), Shane Bonner (Ridley Park, Pa./Ridley), and Bryant Hughes (Middletown, Del./Caravel Academy) combined to post a winning time of 1:37.46.

Junior captain David Altobelli (Silver Spring, Md./James Hubert Blake) swam well in the 1000 freestyle as he placed third for the Green and White with a time of 11:04.50. Teammate Tim McCullough (Rose Valley, Pa./Strath Haven) placed fourth with a time of 11:12.96.

Senior Cody Latchford (New Castle, Del./William Penn) picked up a second place finish in the 200 freestyle as he posted a time of 1:49.34, just .47 seconds out of first. Bonner earned a third place finish in the 50 freestyle as the senior recorded a time of 22.64, just .25 seconds out of first place.

Schreiber earned the Spartans first individual win of the day as the freshman won the 100 butterfly as he completed the race in a time of 54.92. Hughes put together a strong runner-up finish in the 100 free as the senior captain earned a time of 49.62, just .21 seconds back of Rowan's Eric Feuerstein who earned the win.

The Profs captured the top three spots in the 100 backstroke with Latchford breaking up the pack with a fourth place finish as he notched a time of 58.20.

Sophomore Russell Stoll (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes) earned the victory in the 500 freestyle as he recorded a time of 5:03.10. Teammate Matt Terrell (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) placed second with a time of 5:07.91. Nick Leidy (Leesport, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) placed fourth in the event with a time of 5:14.72.

Walthall, the Spartans' junior All-American, rolled to an almost four second win in the 100 breaststroke as he touched the wall in a time of 58.88 to win going away. Teammate Donald Timmerman (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) finished third in the event with a time of 1:03.49.  

The day concluded with the Spartans garnering a fourth place finish in the 200 freestyle relay as the team of Nick Lucash (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville), Terrell, Latchford, and Cameron Byrne (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East) teamed up to post a time of 1:35.06.

The Spartans return to action on February 20 when they begin their three-day stay at the 2015 Capital Athletic Conference championships hosted by St. Mary's College. The action begins Friday morning at 10:00 am.
