Box Score

YORK, PA – The York College men's basketball team put together a complete performance as they downed Frostburg State University 67-52 in Capital Athletic Conference play on Wednesday night in York.

The Spartans improve to 5-19 overall and 4-13 in the CAC while the Bobcats suffer a big blow to their playoff hopes as they fall to 10-14 overall and 6-11 in the league.

The Green and White got off to a fantastic start as they rode the hot right hand of Matt Scamuffo (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) as the freshman sharp shooter scored the first nine points of the game for the Spartans courtesy of a trio of triples.

The Spartans pushed the lead to seven before back-to-back buckets from the Bobcats cut the lead to three midway through the first half. After the teams traded three pointers, the Spartans fashioned a 9-0 spurt to take a 23-11 lead with 7:44 left in the half. The York lead grew to a half-high of 13 before the Bobcats hit back-to-back triples in the last 48 seconds of the half, trimming the York lead to 34-27 at the break.

While it appeared that momentum was on the side of the visitors heading to the locker room, York came out the break and extended the lead. York used a 14-2 run covering less than five minutes to push the lead to 18 with 10:42 left in the game. The run started with a Mike Duffy (Hanover, Pa./South Western) three and was capped by a nifty Blake Straitman (Westminster, Md./Francis Scott Key) bucket and the Spartans were in total control of the game.

The Spartan lead grew to as many as 22 before York settled for a comfortable 15 point win.

York received a number of fantastic performances in the win. Scamuffo led all scorers with 19 points, as the freshman was 7-for-10 from the floor including 4-of-6 from three and 1-for-2 at the line. Bell also had eight points, an assist and a steal in his 32 minutes of work.

Straitman had a perfect night from the floor, as he was 4-for-4 from the field including 3-for-3 from downtown as he finished with 11 points. He also had three assists in the victory. Duffy was the third Spartan in double figures with 10 points off the bench. Duffy also had five rebounds, three assists, and a steal as he had one of his best floor games of the year. Dalton Myers (Finksburg, Md./Westminster) contributed nine points, five rebounds, three blocked shots, and three assists for York.

The Spartans finished the game shooting 52.2% from the field, their third best mark of the season. York 10-for-18 from three, good for a 55.6% percentage from distance.
