Box Score YORK, Pa. – The York College field hockey team surrendered a 3-2 victory to Stevenson University in overtime on Wednesday evening at Kinsley Field.
The Spartans (6-5) experienced a disappointing first half as they out-chanced the Mustangs (5-7) for scoring opportunities, but failed to find the right connections around the cage to put the ball in the net. Instead, Stevenson put York in a deficit by tallying two first-half goals, despite giving up a 9-6 shot advantage and an 8-3 penalty corner advantage to the Spartans.
York completely flipped the script in the second half, suffocating the Mustangs with offensive pressure and racking up a 15-1 shot advantage and a 9-0 advantage in penalty corners.
With all the time of possession in the second half, the Spartans put themselves back in the game and tied the score with two goals from Ali Posey (Airville, Pa. / Red Lion), who now has 14 on the year.
Despite York's dominating effort in the second half, the game went into overtime and played right into the hands of the Mustangs who had a second chance at winning the game after getting completely dominated in the second half. With the door left open for a chance at a victory, Stevenson took full advantage of the opportunity and tallied the game-winner off a penalty corner less than five minutes into the overtime period.
York finished the game with a 25-9 shot advantage, with 17 of its shots finding their way on goal. The Spartans also finished with a 17-4 advantage in penalty corners.
