Box Score FREDERICKSBURG, VA – The York College Spartans saw their four match win streak come to an end as the University of Mary Washington Eagles swept the Spartans 3-0 in Capital Athletic Conference play on Wednesday night in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
The Eagles improve to 16-4 overall and 3-0 in the CAC as Mary Washington was receiving votes in the AVCA poll this past week. The Spartans are now 9-13 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
The Eagles captured the match by scores of 25-15, 25-18, and 25-14.
Mary Washington was paced by Rachel Hendricks as she had a match-high 12 kills. Emma Murphy added nine kills in just 16 attempts with one error as she hit a blistering .500 for the match. Jenna Yost paced the Eagles' defensive effort with 22 digs. Emma Olson handed out 34 assists while she also had six kills in nine attempts as she hit .667 for the match.
Mary Washington hit .262 as a team while they also had nine aces and 10 block assists in the win. The Eagles doubled up the Spartans in total kills as UMW had 44 while the Spartans had 22 kills in the match.
Sophomore Kelly Cavey (Hampstead, Md./Hereford) led the Spartans with six kills. Freshmen Eryn Brady (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) and Brooke Krebs (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) each contributed five kills in the setback. Krebs also had 10 digs for York.
Senior Katherine Graziano (Elkridge, Md./Archbishop Spalding) powered the Spartan defense with 24 digs. Junior Sarah Wukitch (East Greenville, Pa./Southern Lehigh) had 20 assists, five digs and a kill for the Green and White.
The Spartans return to action on Wednesday evening when they travel to Penn State Harrisburg to face the Lions in a Capital Athletic Conference match. The match is slated for a 7:00 pm start.
