Salisbury Edges Spartan Men in CAC Opener

SALISBURY, MD – The York College men's swim team dropped their Capital Athletic Conference opener at Salisbury University, 113-92, on Saturday afternoon in Salisbury, Maryland.

The Sea Gulls improve to 1-1 overall and 1-0 in the league. York falls to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in the conference.

The Spartans earned four first place finishes during the meet. Freshman Jacob McConnell (Chesterfield, N.J./Northern Burlington) had a big day for the Green and White as he earned a first place finish and also a second place finish. McConnell won the 200 free in a time of 2:07.54. He was the runner-up in the 100 free as he touched the wall in a time of 56.52.

Fellow freshman Trevor Brinton (Landenberg, Pa./Avon Grove) also earned a win and a second place finish for the day. Brinton won the 100 free in a time of 56.12 while he was second in the 50 free with a time of 25.36.

Sophomore Morgan Schreiber (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) earned a win in the 100 back as he registered a time of 59.70. Junior Donald Timmerman (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) earned York's final individual win of the day with a victory in the 100 breaststroke as he recorded a time of 1:11.20.

The Spartans notched six individual second place finishes while the 400 medley and 400 free relay teams each placed second. The 400 medley relay team of Schreiber, Timmerman, Nick Leidy (Leesport, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) and McConnell combined to post a time of 4:08.50, just .33 seconds back of Salisbury's winning time.

The freestyle relay team of Colin Sload-Diehl (Windsor, Pa./Red Lion), Artem Peshenko (Elkins Park, Pa./Abington), Schreiber, and Foltz earned a time of 3:49.70 for their runner-up finish.

Senior All-American Kyle Walthall (Port Hueneme, Calif./Rio Mesa) finished the day with a pair of runner-up finishes as he was second in the 800 free (9:19.93) and the 400 free (4:24.31). Leidy posted a second place finish in the 200 IM with a time of 2:24.83 while Tim McCullough (Rose Valley, Pa./Strath Haven) notched a runner-up finish in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:11.75.

York had four third place finishes in the meet. Esdras Moore (Dallas, Pa./Dallas) (800 free and 400 free), Nick Foltz (Ridley Park, Pa./Ridley) (200 free), and Sload-Diehl (100 fly) each earned third for York.

The Spartans return to action on Saturday, November 7 when they host a quad-meet featuring St. Mary's, Ursinus, and St. Vincent. The meet is set for a 1:00 pm start.
