Spartans Drop Road Match at Marymount on Saturday

ARLINGTON, VA – The York College volleyball squad dropped a 3-1 Capital Athletic Conference decision at Marymount University on Saturday morning in Arlington, Virginia.

The Saints won the match 25-20, 25-16, 18-25, and 25-17. Marymount is now 16-6 overall and 4-1 in the league while the Spartans fall to 10-14 overall and 2-2 in the CAC.

Emileigh Retting paced the Saints as she banged out a match-high 20 kills in 40 attempts as she hit .375 for the match. Retting also had 15 digs, three block assists, and two service aces as she totaled 23.5 points for the Saints. Cailyn Thomas added nine kills, three solo blocks, and six block assists. Margaret McAlpin contributed nine kills, two block solos and four block assists in the victory. Morgan McAlpin chipped in with seven kills, four block assists, and a service ace, as she was the fourth Saint to record double digits in points in the match.

Caroline Hanson handed out 30 assists for the Saints while Christine Tieman handed out 13 assists of her own. Courtney Phung matched Rettig for the team lead in digs with 15.

Freshman Brooke Krebs (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) led York with 12 kills while she also had 11 digs, two service aces, and two block assists for a team-leading 15 points. Sophomore Kelly Cavey (Hampstead, Md./Hereford) contributed nine kills and a block assist.

Junior Sarah Wukitch (East Greenville, Pa./Southern Lehigh) handed out 33 assists in addition to four digs, two block assists and a kill. Senior Katherine Graziano (Elkridge, Md./Archbishop Spalding) continues to climb up the ranks of the York College all-time digs list as she collected a match-high 17 digs. Graziano now has 1,714 digs, as she is four digs short of moving into second place on the all-time list.

The Spartans return home for the first time since September 26 on Wednesday night when they host Frostburg State University in a Capital Athletic Conference contest. Game time at Charles Wolf Gymnasium is set for 7:00 pm.
