Diplomats Down Spartans in Non-Conference Tilt

LANCASTER, PA – The York College volleyball squad dropped a 3-1 non-conference decision to Franklin & Marshall in a hot and humid Mayser Center in Lancaster.

The Diplomats improve to 2-0 overall while the Spartans fall to 2-3 for the campaign.

The Diplomats won the match by scores of 25-14, 20-25, 25-14, and 25-14.

The Spartans struggled offensively in the match as they hit just .086 as they had 30 kills and 19 errors in 128 attempts. The Spartans also committed 13 service errors while they had just two aces in the match.

Junior Charlotte Sabatano (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) led the offense with eight kills in 32 attempts. Sabatano led the Spartan defense with a career-high 17 digs. Emma Geisser (Derwood, Md./Magruder) came off the bench to contribute six kills. Phoebe Schmehl (Allentown, Pa./William Allen) and Katie Huston (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) added five kills each.

Senior setter Kristin Martinak (Hanover, Pa./South Western) handed out 24 assists for the Green and White. Karli Hawxhurst (Prince Frederick, Md./Calvert) added nine digs to the Spartan defensive effort.

The Spartans are now off until next Wednesday when they host McDaniel in their 2014 home opener at Wolf Gymnasium. The match is slated for a 7:00 pm start.
