Box Score 2 WILLIAMSPORT, PA – The York College volleyball squad swept a pair of matches during the opening day of the 21st Annual Warrior Tip-Off Classic hosted by Lycoming College on Friday in Williamsport, Pa.
The Spartans opened the day with a 3-0 victory over Elmira and then also swept Pitt-Bradford 3-0. The scores against Elmira were 25-16, 25-13, and 25-16. York defeated Pitt-Bradford 25-19, 25-20, and 25-18.
The wins snap a four-game losing streak as the Green and White improves to 4-4.
In the opening win over Elmira, senior Katie Huston (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) led the offense with eight kills and no errors in just 13 attempts as she hit a blistering .615 in the win. Freshman Kelly Cavey (Hampstead, Md./Hereford) added seven kills while junior Charlotte Sabatano (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) chipped in with six kills, seven digs, and four service aces. Senior Kristin Martinak (Hanover, Pa./South Western) dished out 15 assists, collected six digs, and had a service ace.
The Spartans hit .262 in the win. It was their second-highest attack percentage of the year.
In the victory over Pitt-Bradford, Sabatano banged out a team-high nine kills in the match. Huston added seven kills as she hit .375 in the win. Sophomore Sarah Wukitch (East Greenville, Pa./Southern Lehigh) handed out 18 assists to go along with two kills, three service aces, and four digs while Martinak added 13 assists, three kills, and five digs. Cavey notched a career-high 15 digs while she also had a career-high six service aces and three kills. Katherine Graziano (Elkridge, Md./Archbishop Spalding) also reached double figures in digs with 10 in the victory.
The Green and White tied their season high with the 11 service aces.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday morning when they square off against Houghton at 9:30 am followed by a match against Susquehanna at 11:30 to close out their stay at the tournament.
