Box Score

YORK, PA – The York College Spartan volleyball squad dropped their 2014 home opener to McDaniel College, 3-0, on Wednesday night in York.

The Green Terror won the match by scores of 25-17, 25-18, and 25-21. The Green Terror improves to 7-1 overall while the Spartans fall to 2-4.

The Green Terror got off to a great start in game one as they sprinted out to a 4-0 lead. McDaniel pushed the lead to six before the Spartans trimmed their deficit to two on three different occasions. However, each time McDaniel answered the Spartan run to keep York at bay. An unusual rotation infraction cost McDaniel four points, turning a 20-12 lead into a 16-13 advantage. The Spartans couldn't take advantage of their good fortune as the Green Terror scored nine of the final 13 points of the set to take the opening game.

The second set was tight until late in the stanza. The set was tied three times with the last tie coming at 10-10. The Green Terror ripped off a 6-1 run to push out to a five-point lead. York cut the lead back to one at 17-16 and York would stay within two points until the Green Terror ended the set with a 6-0 run for the 25-18 victory.

In the third set, the Spartans took their first and only lead of the night when they won the first point. McDaniel eventually pushed out to a 10-5 lead. The Spartans trimmed the lead to 12-10 but the Green Terror went on a 7-2 run to take a 20-11 lead. York ripped off six straight points to cut their deficit to three but that's as close as they would get the rest of the way.
