Box Score YORK, PA – The tenth ranked Christopher Newport women's volleyball squad ended the 2014 regular season with a 3-0 win over York College at Charles Wolf Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
The loss ends the Spartans season as York finished with a mark of 10-21 overall and 3-6 in the league. The Captains, who enter the upcoming Capital Athletic Conference tournament as the number one seed, improve to 29-3 overall and finished the conference regular season 9-0.
The Captains won the match by the scores of 25-16, 25-11, and 25-14.
CNU was outstanding offensively as they hit a blistering .409 for the match with 40 kills and just four errors in 88 attempts.
The Captains were paced by Briana Sutton as she banged out 13 kills in 21 attempts. Hannah Miller contributed seven kills in 17 attempts in addition to a trio of block assists. Rachel Conway recorded 28 assists, six kills, four service aces, and five digs in the Captains' win.
The Spartan offense was led by freshman Kelly Cavey (Hampstead, Md./Hereford) as she notched six kills in the match. Senior Katie Huston (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) had five kills as she hit .278. Huston also had two service aces, three digs, a solo block and a block assist for a team-high 8.5 points. Senior Kristin Martinak (Hanover, Pa./South Western) dished out 12 assists while she also had four digs. Junior Katherine Graziano (Elkridge, Md./Archbishop Spalding) led the Spartan defense with a match high 16 digs.
The loss ends the careers of Huston, Martinak, and Jackie Schwarm (Lanham, Md./Homeschooled) as the threesome combined to win 52 matches during their Spartan careers.
