YORK, PA – The York College men's swim team got back on the winning side of the ledger as they downed Salisbury University 120-85 in a Capital Athletic Conference meet on Saturday in York.
The Spartans improve to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the CAC while the Sea Gulls fall to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
The Green and White got off to a great start in the opening race, as the Spartans took first and second place in the 400 medley relay race. The Spartans' A squad consisting of Morgan Schreiber (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove), Kyle Walthall (Port Hueneme, Calif./Rio Mesa), Cody Latchford (New Castle, Del./William Penn), and Shane Bonner (Ridley Park, Pa./Ridley) rolled to a combined time of 3:38.27 to earn the win. The Spartans' B team of Martin Dichmann-Schmidt (Pilesgrove, N.J./Woodstown), Donald Timmerman (Randolph, N.J./Randolph), Russell Stoll (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes), and Cameron Byrne (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East) teamed up to finish second with a time of 3:53.67.
The Green and White kept the beat going in the 1000 freestyle as York captures the top three places in the race. Stoll earned the win as he touched the wall in a time of 10:45.78. Matt Terrell (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) finishes second while David Altobelli (Silver Spring, Md./James Hubert Blake) was third.
Salisbury notched a win in the 200 free but York captured the next three spots in the race to score nine points. Bryant Hughes (Middletown, Del./Caravel Academy) finished second in the race, touching the wall in a time of 1:50.0.
Bonner picked up a Spartan win in the 50 free as he posted a time of 22.54 in the win. Walthall recorded a win of his own in the 200 IM, completing the race in a time of 2:02.71. Schreiber picked up a third place finish in the race for the Green and White, recording a time of 2:06.95.
Bonner recorded a second place finish for York in the 100 fly as he broke up a pack of Sea Gulls in the event. Bonner's time was 56.19.
Hughes earned his first win of the day, as he was victorious in the 100 free with a time of 49.37.
Schreiber earned a second place finish in the 100 backstroke as the freshman earned a time of 54.76.
Walthall earned his second win for the day, and fourth of the weekend, in the 500 free as he cruised to an easy win, completing the race in a time of 5:03.57. Latchford finished third in the race while Terrell was fourth to pick up points for the Green and White.
Timmerman led a three Spartan charge in the 100 breaststroke as he won the event with a time of 1:03.20. Tim McCullough (Rose Valley, Pa./Strath Haven) was second while Byrne was third for York.
The Green and White closed out the meet with a second place finish in the 400 free relay. Terrell, Altobelli, Nick Lucash (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) and Bonner combined to record a time of 3:26.12 to earn the runner-up finish.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday, November 8 when they host St. Mary's, Dickinson, and St. Vincent in a quad meet. The meet is set for a 1:00 pm start.
