YORK, PA – The York College volleyball squad celebrated Senior Night with a 3-0 Capital Athletic Conference win over Penn State Harrisburg on Wednesday night in York.

The Spartans won the match 25-13, 25-19, and 25-5. York improves to 10-20 overall as they snap a six match losing streak. The Spartans are now 3-5 in the CAC. The Lions fall to 1-24 overall and 0-8 in the league.

The Spartans received strong efforts up and down the lineup. Senior Katie Huston (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) paced the Green and White with six kills while she also had a solo block and a block assist. Senior Jackie Schwarm (Lanham, Md./Homeschooled) added five kills, a solo block, and a pair of block assists. Senior Kristin Martinak (Hanover, Pa./South Western) dished out 20 assists, drilled a match-high six service aces and had five digs as all three seniors contributed to the win.

Sophomore Karli Hawxhurst (Prince Frederick, Md./Calvert) paced the Spartans' defensive effort with 12 digs while she also had three service aces. Freshman Kayla Gibbs (York, Pa./York Suburban) added six kills in just nine attempts for a blistering .667 attack percentage. Gibbs also had five digs in two sets for the Spartans. Freshman Ashley Graves (Huntingtown, Md./Patuxent) came off the bench to collect five kills and nine digs in two sets.

Kiara Carter led the Lions with three kills while Casey Stump notched seven assists.

Prior to the match, the Spartans honored Huston, Martinak and Schwarm for their contributions to the Spartan program.

The Spartans close out their 2014 campaign on Saturday when host Christopher Newport in a CAC contest. Game time is set for 12:00 pm at Charles Wolf Gymnasium.
