Box Score BUENA VISTA, VA – The York College Spartans dropped a 3-1 decision at Southern Virginia University in Capital Athletic Conference volleyball action on Saturday in Buena Vista, Virginia.
The Knights won the match 25-20, 23-25, 25-19, and 25-16. SVU improves to 14-7 overall and 2-1 in the CAC while the Spartans fall to 9-15 overall and 2-1 in the league.
The Spartans were led by senior Katie Huston (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) as she recorded 14 kills, ten digs and a block assist in the loss. Huston hit a team-high .233 in the match. Junior Alison Dorsey (Elkridge, Md./Long Branch) was the other Spartan in double figures with 11 kills while she also had a block and a block assist. Junior Charlotte Sabatano (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) added nine kills to the Spartan offensive attack.
Senior setter Kristin Martinak (Hanover, Pa./South Western) dished out a match-high 33 assists while she also had 14 digs, three kills and a pair of block assists.
Junior Katherine Graziano (Elkridge, Md./Archbishop Spalding) led the Spartan defense with 17 digs.
Vanessa Pawlak led the Knights with 15 kills while April Bennett had a match-high 18 digs.
The Spartans return to action on Tuesday night when they make the trek to St. Mary's College for another CAC road match. The contest is slated for a 7:00 pm start.
