Box Score 2 WESTMINSTER, MD – The York College volleyball squad split
their two match at McDaniel College on Saturday afternoon. The
Spartans fell in five sets to Elizabethtown before bouncing back to
trounce the host Green Terror 3-0 in the nightcap. The Blue Jays
edged the Spartans 16-25, 25-18, 17-25, 30-28, and 15-6. In the
second match, York rolled 25-11, 27-25, and 25-21.
The highlight for York on the day was senior Alishia
Waltermyer as the Spartans' middle hitter surpassed
1,000 career kills with her fifth kill in the loss to the Blue
Jays. Waltermyer now has 1,004 kills in her stellar career.
In the Elizabethtown match, senior All-CAC middle hitter
Alysse
Beshore banged home a team-high 16 kills while she
also had four block assists and one block solo. Beshore hit .536
for the match as she had just one error in her 28 attempts.
Freshman Jessica
Moyer added nine kills, three block assists, and one
solo block to the Spartan effort. Waltermyer had six kills in her
milestone match while she also contributed five block assists.
Sophomore libero Ashley
Rineman led the Spartans' defensive effort with 28
digs while setter Cornti Rentzel added 12 digs of
her own. Rentzel handed out 31 assists in addition to four service
aces and one block assist.
In the nightcap, the Spartans roared out of the gate with the
impressive first set win. Spartan head coach Sue
DuMars got 13 of her 14 players into the match as
only three Spartans played all three sets.
Moyer led the Green and White with seven kills and four block
assists. Sophomore Melissa
Patterson and Beshore each chipped in with six kills.
Beshore hit .385 for the match as she is hitting .458 in three
matches in 2010.
Rentzel handed out 31 assists and collected eight digs and two
service aces while Rineman had 13 digs in just two sets for the
match. Junior Heather
Bucher contributed 10 digs while freshman Brittnee
Siegman had eight digs and four kills for the Green
and White.
The Spartans return to action on Tuesday night when they travel
to Gettysburg College to face the Bullets in a non-conference match
up. First serve is set for 7:00 pm.
