Box Score 2 ASTON, PA – The York College volleyball team remained red
hot as they extended their win streak to nine with a pair of
straight set wins on Friday at the 2010 Neumann University Knights
Invitational hosted by Neumann University in Aston, PA. The
Spartans opened the day with a 25-6, 25-18, 25-13 win over Wesley
and concluded their Friday with a 25-10, 25-14, 25-21 victory over
Marywood College.
The Spartans improve to 10-1 overall while Wesley stands at 1-11
and Marywood is now 5-3.
In the win over Wesley, the Spartans did not have a single
player reach double figures in kills as all 14 players saw action
in the match. Senior Alysse
Beshore had eight kills in 14 attempts as she hit .500
for the match. Sophomore Dani
Mastroieni also had eight kills in the match to help
pace the Spartan offense. Sophomore Melissa
Patterson came off the bench to record seven kills for
the Green and White.
Junior setter Cortni
Rentzel handed out 29 assists in addition to recording
three kills and eight digs. Sophomore libero Ashley
Rineman paced the Spartans' defensive effort with 12
digs while she also had three service aces.
In the nightcap, the Spartans rolled to their fourth consecutive
straight set win as they cruised past Marywood. Junior Heather
Bucher was outstanding as the outside hitter had 12
kills and hit .550 for the match. She also had seven digs, a pair
of service aces, a solo block, a block assist and one assist.
Senior Alishia
Waltermyer had six kills in eight attempts while she
also had a block assist in the win. Freshman Jessica
Moyer came off the bench to drill home nine digs in 14
attempts with no errors as she hit a blistering .643 for the
match.
Rentzel continues to engineer the offense efficiently as she had
37 assists, five digs, two kills, and one block assist. Rineman
continues to be a defensive stalwart for York as she had a
team-high 12 digs. Beshore contributed seven kills and a pair of
block assists in the victory.
The Spartans put their win streak on the line on Saturday
morning at 10:00 am when they face the host Knights. The result of
that match will determine when the Green and White plays for a
second time on Saturday.
