Box Score 2 SELINSGROVE, PA – The York College volleyball squad
captured their fourth in-season tournament title of the year as
they swept Susquehanna and Albright to earn the title of the Fifth
Annual Hampton Inn Crusader Classic hosted by Susquehanna
University on Saturday.
The Spartans have now won a school-record 21 straight as they
improve to 22-1 overall. Senior Alishia Waltermyer
was named the tournament MVP while junior setter Cortni
Rentzel earned a spot on the All-Tournament team.
The Green and White defeated Susquehanna 25-21, 25-20 and 26-24
while they downed Albright 25-13, 17-25, 25-8, and 25-16.
In the win over Susquehanna, Waltermyer had nine kills and four
block assists to power the balanced Spartan attack. Alysse
Beshore and Julie Coombs each tied
Waltermyer for the team-high in kills as they also had nine for the
match. Beshore added a service ace and a solo block while Coombs
chipped in 12 digs, two assists, and two block assists. Rentzel
handed out 33 assists while she also had nine digs for York.
Sophomore libero Ashley Rineman notched 16 digs
while she also had a match-high four service aces.
For the 16th time during the year, the Spartans hit
over .200 for the match as they hit .211 in the win over the
Crusaders.
Against Albright, Beshore powered the Spartan offense with 11
kills as she hit a blistering .588 in the match. Waltermyer
wasn't far behind with nine kills and a .471 attack
percentage. Rentzel distributed 39 assists while she also had five
digs, a service ace and a solo block. Rineman had 28 digs and a
pair of service aces while junior Heather Bucher
chipped in with 13 digs, six kills, six assists, a service ace, a
solo block, and a pair of block assists.
The Spartans begin a huge week on Tuesday evening with a crucial
trip to St. Mary's for a CAC contest. Game time in St.
Mary's City is set for 7:00 pm. The Spartans then travel to
Catholic on Wednesday before heading to Frostburg State on
Saturday.
