Box Score 2 SELINSGROVE, PA – The York College volleyball squad
extended their school-record win streak to 19 with a pair of wins
during the opening day of the Fifth Annual Hampton Inn Crusader
Classic hosted by Susquehanna University. The Spartans defeated
Washington & Jefferson 3-1 in the opener and completed the
sweep with a 3-0 win over Rowan.
York improves to 20-1 overall while the Presidents are now 6-8
and Rowan is 11-6.
Against the Presidents, the Spartans dropped the first set 25-18
before rebounding to capture the final three sets, 25-14, 25-22,
and 25-14. The Spartans were paced by the dynamic senior duo of
Alishia
Waltermyer and Alysse Beshore. Waltermyer banged
out 11 kills while she also had a solo block and a pair of block
assists. Beshore added 10 kills, one solo block and three block
assists for the Green and White. Junior setter Cortni
Rentzel recorded the double-double with a match-high
36 assists in addition to 13 digs. Sophomore Ashley
Rineman again led the Spartans' defensive effort with
27 digs while junior Heather
Bucher added 16 digs and five kills to the Spartan
effort. Junior Julie
Coombs contributed10 digs, six kills, two service
aces, and two assists.
In the nightcap, the Spartans swept the Profs 25-22, 28-26, and
25-20. Waltermyer had a huge match as Rowan had no answer for the
senior middle hitter. She drilled home 16 kills as she hit a
blistering .519 for the match. Waltermyer also had four block
assists in the victory. Beshore contributed 10 kills and seven digs
as she hit .320 for the match. Coombs paced the Spartan defense
with 18 digs while she also had six kills and a block assist.
Rentzel distributed 39 assists in addition to 11 digs, two kills, a
solo block, and a block assist. Rineman chipped in with 17 digs and
two service aces while Bucher had 10 digs, five kills, two assists,
a service ace, a block assist, and a solo block.
The Spartans will face a stern test on Saturday as they face the
host Crusaders in the third match of the tournament at 1:00 pm.
York then closes out the weekend with a match against Albright at
3:00 pm. The Crusaders are 17-8 and have a sterling 8-1
record at O.W. Houts Gymnasium.
