Box Score YORK, PA – The York College volleyball squad cruised to a
3-0 Capital Athletic Conference win in their 2010 regular season
home finale at Wolf Gym on Thursday night. The Spartans improve to
25-4 overall and 5-2 in the CAC while the Saints fall to 9-18 and
2-5 in the conference.
Prior to the contest, the Spartans celebrated Senior Night as
middle hitter Alishia Waltermyer, middle hitter
Alysse Beshore, and defensive specialist
Jana Arentz were making their final regular season
appearance at Wolf Gym.
The Spartans got the night started off right with a 25-15 win in
the opening set. York never trailed as they jumped out to a 3-0
lead. The Saints cut the lead to two eight different times with the
last time coming at 12-10. The Spartans outscored the Saints 13-5
the remainder of the set to get off on the right foot.
Marymount jumped on the Spartans early in set two as they led
8-2 after just ten points. The Spartans trailed by as many as seven
before tying the match at 11, 12, and 20. The Spartans trailed
20-17 before hitting the Saints with a 5-0 run that turned their
three-point deficit into a 22-20 edge. The Spartans scored three of
the final five points of the match to capture the 25-22 win.
The Spartans used the momentum of the late victory in the second
set to surge to an early advantage in the third game. York jumped
out to an 8-2 lead and the Saints never got closer than three the
rest of the way. York ended the match on an 8-1 run to secure the
25-15 third set win.
The Green and White was powered by Beshore as she went off in
the final CAC regular season home match of her career. The senior
registered 17 kills in just 25 attempts as she hit a mind-numbing
.680 for the match. She added six digs, a solo block and a pair of
block assists in the win. Waltermyer added six kills and a block
assist while Arentz contributed eight digs and four service aces
off the bench.
Junior Cortni Rentzel distributed 35 assists
and had four digs while sophomore Ashley Rineman
led the defensive effort with 13 digs. Junior Julie
Coombs chipped in with seven kills and nine digs for the
Green and White.
The Spartans are now off until Wednesday when they travel to
Salisbury for a very important CAC showdown with the Sea Gulls. The
match is scheduled for a 7:00 pm start in Salisbury, Md.
