Box Score YORK, PA – The York College volleyball squad resumed their
winning ways on Tuesday night as they downed Wesley College 3-0 in
a Capital Athletic Conference contest at Wolf Gymnasium. The
Spartans improve to 24-4 overall and 4-2 in the CAC while the
Wolverines fall to 5-27 and 1-5 in the league.
The Spartans won the match 25-11, 25-19, and 25-12.
The first set was tight throughout the early points. With York
leading 11-8, the Spartans fashioned a set-changing 9-1 run that
pushed the lead to 11 at 20-9. The Green and White then closed out
the set by scoring five of the final seven points to take the
14-point set one win.
The Wolverines came out strong in the second set as they
overcame an early 3-0 deficit to forge a 9-6 lead. The Spartans
chipped away at their deficit, eventually tying the set at 12. That
fifth and final tie of the set was a part of a 7-0 run that turned
the two point Spartan deficit into a 17-12 advantage. The
Wolverines eventually trimmed the York lead to one at 18-17 but the
Spartans closed out the set on a 7-2 run as they posted the
six-point win.
The third set saw the Spartans again trail early only to come
back and tie the set at four. York then put together a 9-3 run to
forge a 15-7 lead. The Wolverines closed to within 15-9 after a
timeout but York ended the game on a 10-3 run to conclude the
contest.
The Spartans were led by senior Alysse
Beshore as the middle hitter had eight kills and a
.429 attack percentage in the match. Beshore also added solo block
and a pair of block assists in the win. Junior Heather
Bucher chipped in with seven kills in 11 attempts as
she hit a blistering .636 for the match. Junior Cortni
Rentzel handed out 29 assists in addition to seven
digs. Sophomore Ashley
Rineman led the Spartan defense with 16 digs.
York finished the match hitting .311. It is the third time this
season they have hit over .300 in a match and the second time in
CAC play this campaign.
The Spartans return to action on Thursday when they host
Marymount in a CAC contest at Wolf Gym. The Spartans will honor
their three seniors prior to the match which is slated for a 7:00
pm start.
