Box Score 2 FROSTBURG, MD – The York College volleyball team had
something happen to them that hasn't happened in 2010 as the
Spartans were swept in a tri-match on Saturday in Frostburg, MD.
The Green and White dropped a 3-1 decision to Frostburg in a
Capital Athletic Conference showdown and then fell to Penn
State-Altoona in the nightcap, 3-0.
The Spartans fall to 23-4 overall and 3-2 in the CAC as they
have dropped three of their last four matches after their 21 game
win streak was snapped Tuesday. The Bobcats remain atop the CAC
standings as they are 5-0 in the league and 23-3 overall.
PSU-Altoona is 17-9.
In the opener, the Bobcats won 25-22, 20-25, 25-22, and 25-21.
The Spartans were led by senior Alysse Beshore and
junior Julie Coombs as they each notched 12 kills.
Beshore added seven digs, a solo block and block assist while
Coombs contributed nine digs and a block assist. Junior
Cortni Rentzel handed out 39 assists in addition
to nine digs. Senior Jana Arentz led the Spartan
defense with 16 digs while sophomore libero Ashley
Rineman had 15 digs of her own. Senior Alishia
Waltermyer chipped in with eight kills and five block
assists.
The Spartans hit .162 for the match while they had eight service
errors and four ball handling errors in the loss.
Against the Lions, the Spartans fell 25-20, 25-19, and 25-22 as
all the sets were tight. Beshore again paced the Green and White
offense with 13 kills as she was the lone Spartan to have more than
seven kills. Rentzel had 30 assists and eight digs. Rineman led
four Spartans in double figures in digs with 14. Coombs had 12 digs
while junior Heather Bucher and freshman
Brittnee Siegman had 10 digs each.
York hit a paltry .092 in the loss while they also had six
service errors and eight reception errors in the match.
The Spartans return to Wolf Gymnasium on Tuesday night when they
host Wesley College in a Capital Athletic Conference match. Game
time is set for 7:00 pm.
