Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. – The York College volleyball squad
bounced back from Tuesday's tough loss at St. Mary's
College with a 3-2 non-conference win over former Capital Athletic
Conference rival Catholic University in Washington, D.C. on
Wednesday night.
The Spartans improve to 23-2 overall while the Cardinals fall to
13-11. The Spartans won the match 25-19, 25-14, 24-26, 18-25, and
15-11.
York was paced by senior Alysse Beshore as the
middle hitter banged out 12 kills in addition to seven block
assists, one block solo, two serve aces, and five digs. Junior
Julie Coombs added 11 kills and 17 digs for the
double-double. Coombs also had a solo block, a block assist and a
service ace.
Sophomore Ashley Rineman continued to lead the
strong Spartan defensive effort as the York libero had 28 digs
while she also had a pair of service aces. Junior Heather
Bucher also played a great defensive match with 21 digs
while she also had nine kills, three assists, two aces, and five
block assists.
Junior Cortni Rentzel finished with 39 assists,
11 digs, three block assists, and a service ace. Senior
Alishia Waltermyer aided the Spartans'
effort with nine kills and three block assists.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday in a big Capital
Athletic Conference contest at Frostburg State University. The
Bobcats are currently perched atop of the CAC standings with a 4-0
mark. The Spartans sit in a second place tie at 3-1. The match is
slated for an 11:00 am start. The Spartans will then face Penn
State Altoona in a non-conference match at 1:00 pm.
