GREENSPRING, MD- The York College volleyball squad, despite missing
three members of their normal rotation, posted a 3-2 Capital
Athletic Conference road win at Stevenson University on Saturday
afternoon. The Spartans improve to 6-4 overall and 1-1 in the CAC.
The Mustangs are now 6-5 overall and 1-1 in the league.
The Spartans won the first two sets 25-12 and
25-21 before the Mustangs took set three 25-20 and set four 25-22.
The Green and White took the decisive fifth set 15-12.
The Spartans were led by junior Alysse
Beshore (York, Pa./Northeastern) as she banged out 11
kills, hit .417 for the match and posted eight blocks for a
team-high 17 points. Sophomore Julie Coombs (Leonardtown,
Md./Leonardtown) chipped in with 10 kills and 11 digs for
the double-double. Junior Alishia Waltermyer (Brogue,
Pa./Red Lion) added nine kills and six digs. Sophomore
Cortni Rentzel (Mt. Wolf, Pa./Northeastern) handed
out 29 assists in four sets while she also had two kills, five
digs, and four block assists. Freshman Melissa Patterson
(Edgewater, Md./South River) added
seven points on six kills and a pair of block assists.
The Spartans hit .145 for the match including
.222 and .206 in the first and second sets
before scuffling at .095 and .079 in sets three and four. York hit
.200 in the final and decisive fifth set.
The Green and White return home on Tuesday
evening when they host St. Mary's in a Capital Athletic
Conference match. The match is slated for a 7:00 pm start.
