ALLENTOWN,
PA-The York College women's volleyball squad had a great
first day at the Muhlenberg College Buttermaker Classic in
Allentown, PA on Friday. The Spartans won both of their opening day
matches, defeating Neumann and FDU-Florham by identical 3-0 scores.
The Spartans improve to 4-2 with the two Friday victories.
Against Neumann, the Spartans won the match
25-14, 26-24, 25-19. The Spartans were led by junior Alysse
Beshore (York, Pa./Northeastern) as she hit a blistering
.520 for the match with 14 kills and just one error in 25 attempts
in the match. She also had three kills, seven digs and a pair of
block assists. Beshore's 18 points led the Spartans in the
match. Junior Alishia Waltermyer (Brogue, Pa./Red
Lion) added 10 kills in 22 attempts as she hit .409 for
the match while she also had one solo block and three block assists
for 12.5 points in the match. Beshore and Waltermyer combined to
record 24 of the Spartans' 41 kills in the match. Freshman
Ashley Rineman (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic)
paced the Spartans' defensive effort with 21 digs while she
also had five service aces. Senior Amanda Clemens (Lebanon,
Pa./Cedar Crest) was the other Spartan in double figures
in digs with 10. Senior Amanda Rouillard (Woodbine,
Md./Glenelg) came off the bench to hand out 24 assists in
two sets while Cortni Rentzel (Mt. Wolf,
Pa./Northeastern) had 13 helpers in her one set of action.
In the 25-20, 25-19, 25-21 win over
FDU-Florham, Beshore remained red hot as she recorded nine kills
with no errors in 17 attempts, good for an attack percentage of
.529. She again led the Spartans with 13 points in the match as her
play continues to be outstanding in 2009. Waltermyer had 11 kills
and two solo blocks as she hit .304 for the match. Sophomore
Julie Coombs (Leonardstown, Md./Leonardstown) also
had 11 kills for the Spartans while she also had 11 digs for the
double-double. Sophomore Heather Bucher (Carlisle,
Pa./Carlisle) was the third Spartan in double figures in
kills as she had 10 to go along with three digs, two assists, and
two block assists. Rentzel dished out 40 assists while she also had
eight digs. Rineman once again led the Spartans' defensive
efforts with 18 digs with Clemens picking up 17 digs of her own.
The Spartans will face the host Mules on
Saturday at noon. The result of that match will determine when the
Spartans will play their second game on Saturday.
