YORK,
PA – The York College volleyball squad put together one of
their worst performances of the year as the Spartans dropped a 3-0
Capital Athletic Conference decision to Gallaudet University on
Wednesday evening in York, PA. The Spartans, losers of three
straight, fall to 10-7 overall and 2-3 in the CAC while the Bison
improve to 12-8 overall and 3-1 in the league.
The set scores were 25-19, 25-23, and 25-18.
The Spartans were competitive in the first two sets but fell short
late in each set as the Bison took the commanding lead. The third
set was ugly from the start as the Bison ran off six straight
points to put the Green and White in the early hole. York would try
to fight out of the hole but their efforts would not be enough as
the Bison cruised to the sweep.
The Spartans were paced by senior Jaci Davis (Cherry
Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill) as she tallied eight kills with
five digs as she posted a team-high eight points. Alysse
Beshore (York, Pa./Northeastern) added five kills with no
errors as she hit .500 for the match. Beshore also had three block
assists for 6.5 points. Junior Alishia Waltermyer (Brogue,
Pa./Red Lion) also had 6.5 points as she tallied six kills
with a block assist. Cortni Rentzel (Mt. Wolf,
Pa./Northeastern) handed out 21 assists while she also had
two service aces, two kills, and six digs. Sophomore Julie
Coombs (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) led the Spartan
defense with seven digs.
York returns to action on Friday evening when they travel to
Susquehanna to participate in the Crusader Classic in Selinsgrove,
PA. York faces Montclair State at 6:00 pm followed by a contest
against the host Crusaders at 8:00 pm.
