HUNTINGDON,
PA – The York College women's volleyball squad dropped
their third match at the Wid Guisler Invitational hosted by Juniata
College in Huntingdon, PA as the second ranked Eagles of Juniata
downed the Spartans 3-0 on Saturday evening. The Eagles won the
match decisively 25-13, 25-14, and 25-17.
Juniata improves to 27-2 overall while the
Spartans, losers of three straight, fall to 16-11 for the campaign.
The opening set was even early but the Eagles
slowly pulled away as the set progressed. Juniata led 14-10 and
then went on an 11-3 run to close out the first set.
In set two, the Eagles jumped out to a big
12-1 lead. The Spartans would not be able to get any closer than
nine points during the remainder of the set.
York continued to work hard and attempt to
keep up with the nation's second ranked team but the Spartans
would not be able to keep the Eagles from pulling away late in set
three.
The Spartans were led by Heather
Bucher (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) as she had six points on
four kills, two service aces, and five digs. Alishia
Waltermyer (Brogue, Pa./Red Lion) led York with five kills
while Alysse Beshore (York, Pa./Northeastern)
added four kills and a service ace. Freshman Ashley Rineman
(Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) led the defense with a
match-high 18 digs. Sophomore setter Cortni Rentzel (Mt.
Wolf, Pa./Northeastern) had 14 assists, with two digs, and
one kill.
The Spartans hit just .010 for the match while
the Eagles hit a blistering .324.
York returns to action on Wednesday night when
they host Hood College in their final CAC regular season game of
the year. The match begins at 7:00 pm.
