ARLINGTON,
VA – The York College volleyball squad posted a
four-set victory at Marymount University in a Capital Athletic
Conference match on Tuesday evening in Arlington, VA. The Spartans
improve to 16-8 overall and 4-3 in the CAC. The Saints fall to
17-10 with the loss while they drop to 2-4 in the conference. The
win was the fifth straight for the Spartans.
The Spartans dropped set one 28-26 but bounced
back to run off the next three sets 25-21, 25-18, and 25-21 to take
home the victory.
Junior Alishia Waltermyer (Brogue,
Pa./Red Lion) powered the Spartan offense as she banged
out 17 kills and .343 for the match. She also had three block
assists as she totaled a team-high 19.5 points for the match.
Sophomore Heather Bucher (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle)
had a big match as she had 14 kills, 12 digs, and one block assist
for 14.5 points. Bucher hit .344 for the match and was one of four
Spartans to hit over .340 for the match.
Freshman Melissa Patterson (Edgewater,
Md./South River) was the third Spartan to reach double
figures in points as she had 11 for the match. Patterson banged out
nine kills in addition to a solo block and a pair of block assists.
Patterson had just one error in 18 attempts as she hit .444 for the
night. Junior Alysse Beshore (York,
Pa./Northeastern) also had a big night as she hit .444
with eight kills and no errors in her 18 attempts. Beshore, who
leads the conference in attack percentage, also had two block
assists and four digs.
Sophomore setter Cortni Rentzel (Mt.
Wolf, Pa./Northeastern) played well as she handed out 52
assists and collected 21 digs for the double-double. Rentzel also
had three service aces, a solo block and a pair of kills in the
win. Ashley Rineman (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic)
recorded 20 digs for York while Jana Arentz (Hanover,
Pa./Hanover) and Julie Coombs (Leonardtown,
Md./Leonardtown) also chipped in on the defensive end of
the floor with 14 and 11 digs respectively.
The Spartans hit .291 for the match including
.348 in the third set and .387 in the decisive fourth set.
The Green and White return to action on Friday
evening as they face Geneva in the opening round of the Wid Guisler
Invitational hosted by Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pa. The
Spartans play at 6:00 pm. The Spartans then face Carnegie Mellon at
1:00 pm followed by a match against the host Eagles at 5:00 pm.
