DOVER, DEL – The York College volleyball
team used a very balanced effort to defeat Wesley College 3-0 in a
Capital Athletic Conference match on Tuesday evening in Dover, Del.
The Spartans won the match 26-24, 25-16, and 25-10.
York improves to 14-8 overall and 3-3 in the
Capital Athletic Conference while the Wolverines fall to 7-17
overall and 1-4 in the league.
The Spartans received a number of strong
performances in the match. Junior Alishia Waltermyer
(Brogue, Pa./Red Lion) led the Green and White with nine
points on seven kills, two block assists and a service ace.
Waltermyer hit .333 for the match. Sophomore Heather Bucher
(Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) added 8.5 points with seven
kills, a solo block and a block assist while she also had three
digs.
Freshman Dani Mastoieni (Chalfont,
Pa./Gwynedd Mercy Academy) had a breakout match for York
as the outside hitter tallied six kills in eight attempts as she
hit .625 for the match. She also had a service ace for seven
points.
Setter Cortni Rentzel (Mt. Wolf,
Pa./Northeastern) handed out 19 assists in two sets played
while she also had six digs and a kill. Junior Alysse
Beshore (York, Pa./Northeastern) chipped in with 7.5
points for the Spartans as she had five kills, a solo block, and
three block assists. Beshore hit .385 for the match.
Freshman Ashley Rineman (Hanover,
Pa./Delone Catholic) paced the Spartans' defensive
effort with 15 digs.
York hit .230 for the match and made 11
service errors during the match.
The Spartans return to action on Thursday
evening as they host Catholic University in a non-conference
contest. The match will be preceded by the 2009 Senior Night
ceremonies as the Green and White recognize their three seniors.
Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
