ARLINGTON, VA – The York College
men's basketball team fell to Marymount University 63-44
Saturday afternoon at the Verizon Sports Arena in Capital Athletic
Conference action. With the loss, the Spartans fall to 5-13 on the
year and 3-6 in conference while the Saints improve 7-9 overall and
3-5 in the CAC.
The Saints jumped out to an 11-3 margin within
the game's first 4:32. York then went on a quick 7-0 spurt to
cut Marymount's lead to 11-10 at the 12:52 mark of the first
stanza.
Unfortunately for the Green and White that is
as close as they would be for the remainder of the contest.
Marymount went on an extended 17-4 run over the
next 8:13 to open up a gaping 28-14 lead with 3:39 left in the
first. York closed the lead slightly before halftime but the Saints
still led by eleven at 31-20.
The second half was much the same story as
Marymount broke out to a 43-23 lead just over five minutes into the
frame. From that 14:51 mark, the Saints' lead would not dip
below 14 points for the remainder of the game.
Marymount shot 44.4%, going 20-for-45 from the
field including a 6-of-13 performance from beyond the arc. The
hosts also knocked down 17-of-27 free throws. Dominating on the
glass, Marymount secured 46 caroms to the Spartans 25.
York had difficult 40 minutes offensively. The
Spartans went 15-for-55 from the floor for a mere 27.3% including a
2-for-15 performance from deep. The free throw line also proved
unkind to the Green and White as the visitors only tallied a
12-for-23 showing. The Spartan defense, which held an athletically
superior Marymount squad to a mere 63 points, forced the Saints
into 23 turnovers. Unfortunately, the Spartans were only able to
convert these miscues into eleven points.
Patrick Prewitt led all scorers with 15 points
for the Saints on an efficient 4-for-6 from the field, including
2-for-2 from three, and 5-for-7 from the charity stripe. Shaun
Ingram was the only other Saint in double-figures, recording 12
points and pulling down seven rebounds.
Julian Watson (Odenton,
Md./Arundel) tallied a team-high 12 points for the
Spartans on a 5-for-13 performance. Nick Brady (Hanover,
Pa./Delone Catholic) joined the freshman point guard in
double-digits as he registered eleven on the afternoon.
The Spartans return home this Wednesday,
January 28, for a CAC date with Hood College. Tip-off from the
Grumbacher Sport & Fitness Center is slated for 8:00 pm.
