ANNVILLE, PA-The York College volleyball squad saw their losing
streak grow to five as they dropped a pair of matches at the
Lebanon Valley Flying Dutchmen Tournament on Friday evening. The
Spartans fell to Philadelphia Biblical in five while the host
Flying Dutchmen downed the green and white in four sets. The
Philadelphia Biblical scores were 10-25, 23-25, 26-24, 25-18, and
10-5. The set scores in the Spartan loss to LVC were 25-13, 21-25,
25-19, and 25-17.
In the loss to Philadelphia Biblical, the Spartans had match point
twice only to see the Crimson Eagles come all the way back and
capture sets three, four and five. The Spartans were paced by
freshman Heather Bucher (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle)
as she had nine kills, five assists and a pair of digs. Bucher hit
.500 for the match as she scored nine points for the Spartans.
Fellow freshman Sierra Dell (Glen Rock,
Pa./Susquehannock) added eight kills and four digs while
junior Jaclyn Davis (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill
East) contributed eight kills, 13 digs, and one service
ace. Freshman Cortni Rentzel (Mt. Wolf,
Pa./Northeastern) handed out 26 assists and notched six
digs. Junior libero Amanda Clemens (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar
Crest) recorded a team-high 21 digs while junior
Casi Brough (Hanover, Pa./Spring Grove) had 14
digs to go along with seven kills.
Against Lebanon Valley, Brough led the squad with 13 kills and 13
digs for the double-double. Bucher played another strong match as
she had eight kills, 12 assists, six digs, and a pair of block
assists. Clemens notched 27 digs to pace the Spartans'
defensive effort while freshman Julie Coombs (Leonardtown,
Md./Leonardtown) recorded a career-high 15 digs in
addition to her six kills. Rentzel recorded a double-double with 25
assists and 14 digs.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday afternoon as they face
PSU-Altoona and Ursinus in the final day of the tournament. The
Spartans face the Lions at 1:00 pm followed by a 3:00 pm contest
against the Bears.
