SELINSGROVE, PA-The York College women's
volleyball squad swept their two matches during the second day of
the 3rd Annual Hampton Inn Crusader Classic hosted by Susquehanna
University on Saturday. The Spartans defeated the host Crusaders
3-0 by the scores of 25-22, 25-23, and 26-24. In the second match,
York cruised past Misericordia in three, 25-16, 25-19, and 25-19.
York now stands at 16-11 with the sweep as the Spartans have won
six of their last eight matches.
In the win over the Crusaders, freshman Heather Bucher
(Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) paced the Spartans with 10 kills,
two assists and a pair of block assists for a team-best 11 points.
Sophomore Alishia Waltermyer (Brogue, Pa./Red
Lion) added seven kills and a .333 attack percentage while
she also had a block solo and two block assists for nine points.
Junior Casi Brough (Hanover, Pa./Spring Grove)
chipped in with eight kills and eight digs. Freshman setter
Cortni Rentzel (Mt. Wolf, Pa./Northeastern)
recorded a double-double with 14 assists and 12 digs. Junior setter
Amanda Rouillard (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) led the
Spartans with 20 assists while she also had seven digs. Junior
libero Amanda Clemens (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest)
led the defense with 17 digs while freshman Julie Coombs
(Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) chipped in with 11
digs.
Against Misericordia, Brough paced the offense with 11 kills and
12 digs for the double-double. Rentzel notched her second
double-double of the day with 17 assists and 10 digs while Clemens
recorded a team-high 17 digs. Rouillard dished out 15 assists while
sophomore Alysse Beshore (York, Pa./Northeastern)
recorded eight kills, one block solo and four block assists for 11
points.
Waltermyer earned a spot on the All-Tournament team for her play
in the four Spartan matches for the weekend.
The Spartans return to action on Wednesday night when they travel
to Hood College to face the Blazers in a CAC contest. The match is
slated for a 7:00 pm start.
