ALLENTOWN, PA-The York College volleyball squad captured a pair
of wins during the opening day of the Muhlenberg College
Buttermaker Tournament in Allentown, PA. The Spartans defeated
Albright College 30-18, 30-17, and 30-23 while they blanked
FDU-Florham 30-9, 30-20, and 30-28. The Spartans improve to 4-1
overall as they have won three straight matches.
In the win over Albright, Spartan head coach Sue DuMars was able
to get all the players that were dressed into the contest. York was
paced by freshman phenom Alisha Waltermyer (Brogue, Pa.
/Red Lion) as she notched 10 kills, five service aces,
four block assists and three digs. Waltermyer hit .438 for the game
as she continues to provide the Spartans with a presence in the
middle. Sophomore Lindsay Schorner (Spring Grove, Pa.
/Spring Grove) also continues to impress as she had eight
kills, nine digs and three assists. Senior Katie Hertz
(Glenville, Pa. / Delone Catholic) ran the offense
effectively as she handed out 34 assists, collected 12 digs and
banged out five kills in seven attack attempts. As a team, the
Spartans hit a blistering .281 while they also notched 52 digs.
Against FDU-Florham, Waltermyer again led the Spartan attack
with 14 kills and only one error in 26 attempts as she finished
with a .500 attack percentage. Schorner added 13 kills and 10 digs
for the double-double. She also hit at a high percentage as she
notched a .400 attack percentage. Hertz distributed 38 assists in
addition to her five digs, three service aces, and four digs.
Defensively, senior Laura Krajewski (Livonia,
Mich./Stevenson) notched a team-high 18 digs while senior
Amy Liveslberger (Hanover, Pa. /Delone Catholic)
added 11 digs and four service aces. York continued it's
outstanding offensive attack as they hit .261 as a squad against
FDU.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday at noon. Their
opponent is dependent on the results of the late games on Friday
evening. York will play at noon and 2:00 pm in the championship
bracket of the tournament.
