ANNVILLE, PA-The York College volleyball squad extended its win
streak to eight with a pair of wins in the opening round of the
Lebanon Valley Invitational on Friday afternoon in Annville, PA.
The Spartans defeated Franklin & Marshall, 3-1, in the
first match followed by another 3-1 victory, this time over Lebanon
Valley. The Spartans are now 9-1 with the wins while Franklin
& Marshall is 4-3 and LVC is 6-3. York defeated
Franklin & Marshall 30-23, 30-21, 22-30, and 30-24 while
the scores of the victory over the host Flying Dutchmen were 30-27,
31-29, 27-30, and 30-27.
In the win over the Dips, sophomore Lindsay Schorner
(Spring Grove, Pa. /Spring Grove) paced the offense with
14 kills and 12 digs for another double-double. Freshman
Alisha Waltermyer (Brogue, Pa. /Red Lion) was the
other Spartan in double figures in kills as she notched 10 kills in
21 attempts as she hit .333 for the match. Sophomore Casi
Brough (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) and freshman
Elizabeth Sempervive (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central
Regional) each added nine kills for the Spartan offense.
Brough also contributed 10 digs. Senior Katie Hertz (Glenville, Pa.
/Delone Catholic) handed out 42 assists while she also had 13 digs,
four kills, a service ace and a block assist. Senior Laura
Krajewski (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson) paced the
Spartans' defensive effort with 18 digs while sophomore
Jess Diaczun (York, Pa./York Suburban) added 10
digs.
Against Lebanon Valley, Schorner again gave the Spartans a big
effort with 16 kills, 22 digs and a pair of service aces. Brough
played another solid match with 14 kills as she hit .250 for the
match. Sempervive put together an impressive match with 13 kills
and just one error in 36 attempts as she hit .333 against the
tournament hosts. Waltermyer was the fourth Spartan in double
figures with 11 kills. Krajewski was stellar defensively with a
season-high 33 digs while fellow senior Amy Livelsberger
(Hanover, Pa. /Delone Catholic) added 13 digs and a trio
of service aces for the Spartans. Hertz was great again as she
totaled 56 assists, 13 digs, and four digs. Diaczun established a
new career-high with 11 digs.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday morning as they face
PSU-Altoona in the championship bracket of the tournament. The
winner of the York/PSU-Altoona game will face the winner of the
Lebanon Valley/Haverford match for the tournament championship at
4:00 pm. The two losers will play for third, also at 4:00 pm.
