FREDERICKSBURG, VA- The York College volleyball team continued
to roll as the Spartans posted a 3-1 victory at the University of
Mary Washington in the Capital Athletic Conference opener for
both squads on Wednesday evening. The Spartans, winners of six
straight, improve to 7-1 overall and 1-0 in the league. The Eagles
fall to 5-5 overall and 0-1 in conference. The game scores were
24-30, 30-27, 30-19, and 30-19. The match is the first one for the
Spartans that didn't end in three games.
The Spartans were led by the reigning CAC Volleyball
Player of the Week Lindsay Schorner (Spring Grove,
Pa./Spring Grove). The standout sophomore banged home a
team-high 14 kills while she also posted a career-high 23 digs.
Schorner hit .244 for the match while she also had one service ace.
Fellow sophomore Casi Brough (Hanover, Pa./Spring
Grove) played her best match of the year as she had 13
kills and only two errors in 32 attempts as she notched an attack
percentage of .344. Senior Katie Hertz (Glenville,
Pa./Delone Catholic) continued to efficiently run the
green and white offense as she handed out 42 assists in addition to
four kills, eight digs and a pair of block assists. Freshman
Alisha Waltermyer (Brogue, Pa./Red Lion) recorded
eight kills and a pair of block assists for the green and white.
Senior Lindsay Crider (Greencastle, Pa./James
Buchanan) aided the Spartan defensive effort with 14 digs
while fellow senior Amy Livelsberger (Hanover, Pa./Delone
Catholic) chipped in with 12.
The Spartans hit .195 as a team while they recorded 79 digs.
The Eagles were paced by junior Kelley Hueber's 12 kills and 20
digs, while sophomore Anne Lutkenhaus added 14 kills and 16 digs.
Kat Carter scored nine kills and three blocks for UMW, and Lindsey
Scott added 24 assists.
The Spartans return to action on Friday afternoon at the Lebanon
Valley Invitational. The action kicks off at 3:00 pm in Annville,
PA.
