The York College volleyball team produced a split in their
season-opening tri-match at McDaniel College on Saturday. With the
split, the Spartans are now 1-1. The green and white defeated
Richard Stockton 3-0 in their first match, but fell to
Elizabethtown 3-0 in the second.
The Spartans easily overcame Richard Stockton with scores of
30-23, 30-18, and 30-26. Alisha Waltermyer (Brogue,
Pa. / Red Lion) led the Spartan offense as she notched 12
kills, recording an attack percentage of .250. Waltermyer
also contributed three service aces and one block assist.
Sophomore Lindsay Schorner (Spring Grove, Pa. / Spring
Grove) also attained double-digit kills, registering 11
along with three service aces.
The always steady Katie Hertz (Glenville, Pa. / Delone
Catholic) led the Spartans with 39 assists from her setter
position. Hertz added seven kills, three service aces and seven
digs to the score sheet.
Facing Elizabethtown in their second match, York was unable to
take a game losing all three 33-31, 30-20, and 30-28.
Waltermyer, Schorner, and Elizabeth Sempervive (Flemington,
N.J. / Hunterdon Central Regional) led the Spartan attack
as the trio combined for 28 kills on 83 attempts.
Hertz once again led the green and white in assists, as she
recorded 37 helpers to go with three service aces.
Defensively, Schorner led York with 17 digs while Amy
Liveslberger (Hanover, Pa. / Delone Catholic) chipped in
11 to keep the Spartans in the match.
York hosts Lebanon Valley on Wednesday, September 5 in the
Charles Wolf Gymnasium at the Grumbacher Sport and Fitness
Center. The Spartans first home match of the season begins at
7:00 pm
