YORK, PA - The York College volleyball team closed out their
impressive 2007 regular season with a 3-0 win over former Capital
Athletic Conference rival Catholic University on Senior Day
in York. The Spartans improve to 29-5 with the victory while the
Cardinals fall to 20-14. The match scores were 30-18, 30-17, and
30-18.
Prior to the match, the four Spartan seniors were honored.
Setter Katie Hertz (Glenville, Pa./Delone
Catholic), defensive specialist Lindsay Crider
(Greencastle, Pa./James Buchanan), libero Laura
Krajewski (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson), and outside hitter
Amy Livelsberger (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic)
played their final regular season match in Wolf Gym. The
group has combined to win 80 matches over the last four years.
The Spartans were paced by a sophomore as outside hitter
Lindsay Schorner (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove)
put together another solid performance, registering 10 kills and 12
digs for another double-double. Schorner, a front-runner for the
Capital Athletic Conference Player-of-the-Year, hit .286 for
the match and added a service ace and a block assist in the win.
Freshman Alishia Waltermyer (Brogue, Pa./Red Lion)
was again brilliant as she hit .444 with nine kills and one error
in 18 attempts. Hertz handed out 37 assists while she also had 15
digs, three kills, and a pair of service aces. Crider matched Hertz
for match-high digs honors as she also had 15 while Krajewski
chipped in with 11 digs of her own. Freshman Heather Toth
(Longmont, Col./Niwot) led the effort at the net with five
total blocks while she also had three kills in six attempts.
The Spartans end the match hitting .309 as they made just 10
errors in 110 attempts for the day.
The green and white will attempt to tie the school record for
victories in a season on Tuesday as they open the 2007 Capital
Athletic Conference tournament at home against Villa Julie.
The Spartans are the three seed while the Mustangs are the sixth
seed. Game time at Wolf Gymnasium is set for 7:00 pm.
