SELINSGROVE, PA-The York College volleyball squad swept a pair
of matches during the opening day of the Crusader Classic hosted by
Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, PA. The Spartans defeated
Susquehanna University 3-1 in their opening match and they downed
Richard Stockton by an identical 3-1 match in their nightcap.
Against Susquehanna, the Spartans won the match by scores of
30-16, 26-30, 30-24, and 30-28. Sophomore Lindsay Schorner
(Spring Grove, Pa. /Spring Grove) led the offense with 19
kills and 14 digs for another double-double. Schorner also had
three block assists for York. Fellow sophomore Casi Brough
(Hanover, Pa./Spring Grove) banged out 16 kills as she hit .371 for
the match. Freshman standout Alisha Waltermyer (Brogue, Pa.
/Red Lion) was the third Spartan in double figures in
kills with 13 kills while she also had four block assists. Senior
setter Katie Hertz (Glenville, Pa. /Delone
Catholic) handed out 58 assists to power the Spartan
offense. Hertz chipped in with 13 digs, five block assists, and
four kills. Defensively, senior libero Laura Krajewski
(Livonia, Mich./Stevenson) collected 19 digs while fellow
senior Lindsay Crider (Greencastle, Pa./James
Buchanan) added 11 digs of own.
In the victory over Richard Stockton, the scores were 30-21,
28-30, 30-27, and 30-25. Waltermyer paced the Spartans as she
banged home 21 kills and hit .556 for the match. Schorner recorded
her second double-double for the day with 17 kills and 20 digs.
Schorner added a service ace and a block assist. Brough played
another solid contest with 10 kills for YCP. Hertz distributed 55
assists while she also had 14 digs and five kills for the green and
white. Krajewski fashioned another solid outing with 20 digs and
five service aces.
The green and white return to action on Saturday afternoon when
they face off against Rowan University. York then closes out their
stay at the tournament with a 2:00 pm match against former
CAC rival Catholic.
