ALBION, MI-The York College volleyball squad completed a
successful fall break trip with a pair of wins Saturday at Albion
College in Albion, Mich. The Spartans defeated Olivet 3-2 in
their opening match and then defeated the host Brittons 3-1 in
their second match of the day. York improves to 22-5 overall while
Olivet falls to 4-21 and Albion drops to 7-13. The match score for
the Olivet match was 30-23, 28-30, 29-31, 30-22, and 15-12 while
the Albion match scores were 30-20, 31-29, 23-30, and 30-27.
Against Olivet, sophomore Lindsay Schorner (Spring
Grove, Pa. /Spring Grove) led the way with 21 kills and 22
digs for the double-double. Schorner added four assists, two
service aces and a pair of block assists. Freshman Alisha
Waltermyer (Brogue, Pa. /Red Lion) contributed 15 kills
and four block assists while sophomore Casi Brough (Spring
Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) chipped in with 13 kills, nine
digs, and four block assists. Senior Katie Hertz
(Glenville, Pa. /Delone Catholic) handed out 55 assists,
notched nine kills, collected 16 digs and banged out a pair of
service aces. Hertz also had a solo block and a block assist.
Senior Laura Krajewski (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson)
continued her homecoming with 27 digs while fellow senior
Lindsay Crider (Greencastle, Pa./James Buchanan)
added 13 digs of her own. Freshman Heather Toth (Longmont,
Col./Niwot) chipped in with a career-high eight block assists while
she also had five kills.
The Spartans hit .227 for the match while they recorded a
season-high 13 team blocks.
In the win over Albion, Schorner fashioned another outstanding
match with 16 kills and 17 digs. Waltermyer was the other Spartan
to reach double figures in kills a she had 14. Waltermyer also had
one solo block and four assists. Hertz had another strong line with
40 assists, 19 digs, five kills, one solo block, two block assists,
and one service ace. Krajewski had 14 digs for the Spartan defense
while senior Amy Livelsberger (Hanover, Pa. /Delone Catholic)
contributed 10 digs of her own.
The green and white finished the match hitting .152 and
continued to block well with nine team blocks.
The Spartans return to action on Tuesday, October 16 when they
host Hood College in a Capital Athletic Conference contest.
Game time at the Grumbacher Center is set for 7:00 pm.
