Kennedy returns to the Spartans sideline for his second season on staff and his first as the program’s Defensive Coordinator. Last season Kennedy helped oversee a defense that finished inside the top 20 in a number defensive categories allowing just 9.33 goals per game. 

During his time as student, Kennedy majored in Secondary Education Social Studies and earned his masters in Student Diversity and Resilience. He earned honors for CoSIDA Academic All-District honors, USILA Scholar All-American, was a two-time Academic All MAC and MAC Senior Scholar Athlete.

On the field Kennedy received multiple honors. In 2021, he was awarded the USILA William C. Stiles Memorial Outstanding Defenseman award. He was a 2-time USILA First Team All-American, 2-time MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Year, and 2-time MAC Commonwealth First Team. During the MAC Championship game in 2021 Kennedy was named the MVP of the championship game.

Kennedy ended his career as the program's career leader in caused turnovers with 149, and set the record for most caused turnovers in a season with 68 in 2022. He also ranks 5th all time in ground balls with 241. Kennedy was also added to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List as a second round addition. Kennedy now plays in the Premier Lacrosse League as a defender for the Redwoods Lacrosse Club.


“What set Ryan apart as a player was his instincts. He always knew what the next play was going to be and could anticipate and react a step ahead of everyone. These same attributes serve him well as a coach. He is really smart and is highly motivated to lead our defense with the same standard he played with. I am so blessed to have Ryan on our staff," says head coach Brandon Childs
