Dan Kaplan returns for his third year on Brandon Childs' coaching staff after an outstanding career as a Spartan.
In 2018, Kaplan led the team’s offense to set school records in points, goals per game, assists, and assists per game. The 2018 offense averaged 14.82 goals, which included a perfect 8-0 in the CAC regular season, an appearance in the CAC championship game, and a trip to the NCAA quarterfinals. The Spartans were ranked as high as 2nd in the country in 2018.
Additionally, the Spartans excelled at sharing the ball, as they ranked 8th in the country in assisted goals with 188 for the season. Under Kaplan’s guidance, Junior attackmen Thomas Pfeiffer was named a first team All American along with Senior midfielders Matt Whitcher, another first team selection, and Dillon Hannah, a second team selection.
In 2017, his first season on the sidelines with the Spartans, Kaplan led the team’s offense to average 13.3 goals per game on their way to an impressive 17-4 season and a trip the NCAA Quarterfinals.
Off the field coach Kaplan has been instrumental in the recruiting efforts for the program.
In 2016, Kaplan finished his two year Spartan career scoring 16 goals and 10 assists in two season for the Green and White.
In his sophomore season at Howard Community College, he tallied 42 goals and 15 assists and led the team deep into the NJCAA playoffs.
As he moved from the field to the sidelines, he has brought leadership and incredibly high lacrosse IQ to practice planning and game day prep.
“I could not be more excited about adding Dan to our staff. He has a keen eye for recruiting and his lacrosse IQ will help our staff develop our players individually throughout their four-year careers,” says Childs.
Kaplan has coaching experience in club lacrosse working with the Chesapeake Rock program out of Maryland. He currently resides with his fiancee, Brittany Noell, a former Women’s Lacrosse player for the Spartans, in Columbia, Maryland.
